Clean Water Changes Everything: Stories from the Field

Water is life, and at Zion Foundation Rwanda, we have seen firsthand how access to clean water can transform entire communities. In this article, we share stories from the field that illustrate the profound impact of our Clean Water & Sanitation program.\n\nIn the village of Nyamagabe, women and girls used to walk up to 5 kilometers each day to fetch water from a contaminated stream. Waterborne diseases were common, and children frequently missed school due to illness. When we installed a borehole in the village center, everything changed.\n\nToday, the village has a reliable source of clean water just steps away from their homes. Waterborne diseases have decreased by 80%, and school attendance has improved dramatically. Women who used to spend hours fetching water now have time to pursue income-generating activities.\n\nOur program has provided clean water access to over 15,000 people across 8 districts. Each water point is managed by a local water committee that we train in maintenance and water quality monitoring.\n\nBut our work is far from over. Millions of Rwandans still lack access to clean water, and we are determined to keep working until every community has this basic necessity.
